Compassion defined by synonyms means sympathy, empathy, concern, kindness, consideration and care.
I am a compassionate person - I genuinely care.
I'm the goofball, who so easily identifies with such a variety of characters on TV and in movies and books, that I cry daily - generally tears of sympathy. I cry watching weekly dramas on tv - my hubby just looks at me and stifles his laughter. I cry reading books. It's not unfounded for me to cry at a movie. Even my daughter knows, she looks at me, all worried, and says, "Mommy why are you crying?" And my answer is usually something along the lines of: "Because I can't imagine having to live with _____", the blank being filled in by whatever situation i'm identifying with.
So, now my goal is to be compassionate to people who may not necessarily deserve it. I'm trying to be more Christian in the truest sense of the word - trying to offer more love instead of withholding it.
Can I tell you, that even though I'm a compassionate person, even though I know I care that this task seems particularly daunting? Sometimes it's easier to be mad, which usually stems from seeing things in a one-sided way, and if we as humans haven't figured it out yet, this isn't the way to go about it - Look at the Middle East and where our country has put ourselves. Our leader says it's to spread democracy and all - he says he's prayed - but how warped - Christ never pushed his beliefs on anyone, in fact he did just the opposite. He continuously was kind, loving and compassionate. No wonder we're in this war that seems to have no end...
Just be compassionate! Put yourselves in someone else's shoes. Look at situations from all perspectives. Don't take things personally.
